Bad Technology

Do not use Bad Technology. Do not use it at all. Get rid of it. Boycott it. Delete it. Protest it. Nuke it from orbit. Whatever you do, don't use it--that would only encourage others to use it, and that would cause Bad Technology to spread instead of dying in fire like it needs to. Only use Bad Technology to (a) help you get rid of it or (b) when you absolutely have to due to some insane law, company policy, etc.

Bad Technology can be identified by the following characteristic: an alternative exists which is superior in every way (or superior in some ways and equivalent in others but not inferior in any way).

Here is a list of Bad Technologies:

  • Fax machines

Here is a list of things I treat as Bad Technologies even though they have the advantage of being more universal than existing alternatives:

  • Traditional phone calls
